100g Odyssey is an experimental magic realism film that follows the psychedelic and emotional journey of contemporary Mexican artist Mango (Oso Parado). Living an untamed, free-spirited life in the vast deserts of Baja Sur, Mexico, Mango’s visionary art and unconventional lifestyle intrigue filmmakers Murakami and Gold, who set out to document his creative process. As they film, they become witnesses to Mango's quest for a deeper understanding of the universe through the intense use of magic mushrooms. As he consumes increasingly larger doses, Mango not only seeks transcendence but also confronts the buried traumas of his past, particularly unresolved wounds from childhood.
After taking an extreme “God dose” of 100 grams of mushrooms, the filmmakers, along with Mango’s best friend Alfie, find him in an ecstatic and altered state, lost in the labyrinth of his mind. As night falls, Alfie decides to join Mango on his psychedelic quest, determined to "go all the way."
As the two friends delve deeper into the unknown, their bond deepens, and they embark on a shared voyage that transcends time, space, and their individual perceptions of reality. The psychedelic realm confronts them with alternate versions of themselves and the universe, unraveling their vulnerabilities as humans. Mango’s personal traumas and Alfie’s unconscious struggles intertwine in this surreal space, where the boundaries between inner and outer worlds blur.
100g Odyssey is a cinematic exploration of the poetry of life, framed by the limitless and unpredictable nature of the psychedelic experience. Set against the stunning landscape of Baja Sur, the film challenges perceptions of existence, reality, and the role of human connection in navigating life’s most profound and transformative journeys.
